Week 6: My Favorite Apps for Kindergarten

Below I will list my favorite apps for Kindergarten students.

1. Sight Words- This app is just what the name implies it is an app that allows students to review sight words on the go.  The student has a chance to guess the word and if they do not know it, all they have to do is tap on the word to hear it.  I love this as a quick app on the go.

2. Phonics Genius-  This is an interactive app that allows students to practice phonics.  This app also have a neat feature that allows students to record themselves saying the word and then a playback feature.

3. Little Writer- This app is neat because it allows students to practice their writing skills. This app is fun for students because they think they are playing a game instead of practicing writing. This app is really easy for students to use and another plus is you can personalize it.

4.  Math Bug- This is an app that help students practice counting and their addition and subtraction skills.  Students can start out with easy addition and subtraction and then advance to double digits.

These are four apps that I like to use with my students and my child.  One plus about them all is they are free. I hope you can enjoy these as much as I have.

Week 5: Digital Citizen

It is is very important to be a good digital citizen when using the internet, social media sites, and even emails.  A good digital citizen should be respectful to those that they communicate with and use common sense.  A good digital citizen also has to be sure that things they post are their owns and if not they should provide a citation of the source for the information.

It is very valuable to have a good digital reputation to protect yourself.  Things that you may post online can actually conflict with you real life.  Everything that we post on the internet will always remain there, so if you do not want it to bite you later you shouldn't post it.  Many employers are researching employees before they hire them and some employers have even fired employees for comments that have posted.  A good digital reputation is important for everyone.

Week 4: Material Generators

Material generators can be in a wide range of categories.  Below is a list of generators that I have used or that I would love to use.

1. Worksheet and puzzle generators (Superkids)

As a kindergarten teacher I love to use worksheet generators to allow students to have extra practice. I can produce worksheets for students to work on math skills and reading skills.  Worksheet generators are also convenient for the teachers.

2.Graphic document makers

I would love to use graphic document makers to print awards for my students.  I normally just purchase awards for my students, but I believe that making them can make them more personal.  Graphic document makers can also be used to make flyers about events that are going on in the classroom or school.

3. Whiteboard activity software

While I wish I could say that this is something that I use but  I don't.  I believe that smart boards are awesome, but I currently do not have one in my classroom. I would love to use the whiteboard software because it allows the students to be interactive.  I think that students being interactive in the classroom is very important.  I haven't used this yet, but I can't wait until I am finally able to use it.
